This exciting one way adventure, will see us cover a miniumum of 180 nautical miles and experience the strong tidal streams along the Spanish coast and the Straits of Gibraltar. There will also be some night sailing involved.
From the starting point of Marina Gelves, just outside Seville city centre we'll make our way along the heavily tidal River Guadalquivir. Tidal calculations and careful navigation will be required to avoid the testing shallows and also the commerical shipping and fishermen toward Chipiona at the mouth of the river. From here we head South toward the historic city of Cadiz. Beyond Cadiz cross the haunting Trafalgar Banks where Admiral Nelson met his nemesis, and then onto Tarifa at the junction of the Straits of Gibraltar and the Atlantic Ocean. Then we turn east into the second busiest waterway in the world which seperates Europe and Africa. Some 20 miles along the coast we arrive in Queensway Quay Marina in Gibraltar. There will be several stops along the way to sample traditional Spanish fare and to ensure we keep our batteries charged!
Why not consider arriving in Seville a day or so early and leaving Gibraltar a day or two later. You could combine two city breaks and an exciting sailing trip with just one week off work!
Alternatively, this adventure is part of a two way event, so you could consider doing the round trip from Gibraltar to Seville, a couple of days sightseeing and then the return leg from Seville to Gibraltar. Perfect for budding Yachtmasters in need of some milebuilding!

Travel information:
Flights to and from both Gibraltar and Seville are reasonably priced and transfers from the airport to the yacht are a simple bus ride or short taxi ride away.

We spent a wonderful 11 days in November 2021 with Jolly Parrot. I completed the Coastal Skipper Combined course and my wife the Comp Crew. Instructors Flipper, IanG, Hailey, and Tom were all exceptional in their own unique way and we came away with more rounded skills and knowledge as a result of their patient teaching methods. Clive and Rachel did a fabulous job of shuffling schedules and boats to accommodate our different experience levels. Expect to be challenged on the Coastal Skipper course! We made some abiding memories, some long-term connections and friends, and hope to return soon for the next challenge maybe a mile-builder.
